Introducing
Seiko 5 4227-00C0 "Prince"
Circa 1981
The dial on this one caught my eye. A classic train track, bevelled hour batons, dauphine hands, and a guilloche inner dial. Such a host of design elements mixed into a small 31mm case!
And that's before we have a look at the elaborate bracelet that accompanies this watch.
While first impressions would brand this has a women's timepiece, this Seiko 5 is actually a radical boy-sized offering. Not that it's convincing enough for me to place this on my wrist.
The liberal splattering of design appears confusing, a mess but yet belonging in set somehow, like a dignified youngling searching for his adulthood. I see a coming together of class and radicality - something only a refined gentleman can carry off with confidence.
Peeking from underneath a cuff or boldly meeting guests, this piece will be the talk of the evening. That's if its host does not steal the conversation with his own colorful lifestyle first.
