Introducing
Seiko 5 7009-3171 "Speed"
Circa 1981
There's something about sports watches that make you feel great. Maybe it's the way they throw in design elements; maybe it's the daring lines and bold numbers; or maybe you just feel like a little complexity in your life.
Whatever it is, you need yourself a sports watch.
This 1981 Seiko 5 Speed does what most sports watches of today fail to do - be classy. If this guy were to have a persona he'd be the silent stud sitting by himself at the corner, not saying a word as the flashy young upstarts taunt him and say he's a has-been.
And when the time comes, nay a word said, this guy would give the cocky greenlings a lesson in humility.
Presented in a sturdy tonneau case and a classic three-link bracelet, this veteran is outstanding without being too garish.
Bold numbers circle the mineral glass bezel, the chapter ring sitting neatly beneath like an engine decorating the inside of a hood of a car.
Applique gold batons break out from the conservative matte black dial, overlapped by the gold oar hands that pace the track of the dial.
And beneath it all, the day and date wheel is delivered in black, blending in and letting the golden hour batons stand out.
And to top it all of - the golden Seiko 5 emblem.
Vroom.
