Introducing
Orient 46941 Duo Calendar "Eclipse"
Circa 1970s
Here's the other part of a pair of matching watches I have with the duo calendar dial.
You can view the first one here.
This offering comes with a polished midnight blue dial, hidden as black until the right angle of light comes along. Given the large size of the dial, the blue comes across very nicely.
The Eclipse has higher legibility than the Flare, with its white printed calendars over the dark colored dial. The rotating date wheel is also visibly newer, with less of a sign of age than its twin. The darker twin comes with a normal seconds hand though, unlike the Flare with its arrowed offering.
There is also visibly more decoration on the bezel of the Eclipse.
I guess one would have to make a choice between the two - whether the darker, newer dial appeals or the bright golden glare.
Both exceptional pieces, with a seldom-seen complication.
