Introducing
Orient 46941 Duo Calendar "Flare"
Circa 1970s
This is one part of a pair of twin duo calendar watches from Orient that I have. These things are quite extraordinary watches, giving one a glace at a full month calendar on your wrist - both conventional and Japanese.
You can view the other one here.
The Orient watch company has quite a lot of modules accompanying their 49641 movement, and this is about as interested as you can get.
With the secondary crown at 4'O, you can adjust the day wheels to match the days of the month. What you'll be left with is the full month's calendar. I must admit it's quite handy to have at times. All you need to know is the first day of the month and you can plan your days on the go.
Once again the Orient watches have a very good sense of symmetry, and it gives such a large dial a nice sense of balance that won't turn your eyes away in disgust. Even I, with the small wrists, withstood the barrage of its 46mm case.
The evenly spaced dial elements are complemented with block hour and minute hands, with a arrowed seconds hand adding a little reminder that time does fly.
But what stands out most has got to be the glaring golden dial, If that doesn't start conversations, I don't know what will.
Stay tuned for the darker twin.
