For those who saw my Seikomatic Weekdater post and wanted in on something unapologetically handsome, here's an offer that you might not want to miss out on.

A polished black dial, with patina hour markers and nice shiny dauphine hands and a short arrow alarm hand. And this one doesn't come with the boring lugs of the Seiko either.

Alarm watches are a very nice novelty to own and operate. For those who own Seiko Bell-Matics, you'll be glad to know that the Citizen mechanical alarm movement sounds a whole lot louder, comparable to the legendary Vulcains. 

Unlike vintage Vulcains however, the Citizen Alarm Date is more suited to today's watch sizes, and wouldn't look out of place on a modern wrist. 

Two large crowns wind the barrels that power the movement and the 20 second alarm manually, and with something that large it's really easy to wind up on the go without having to take your watch off the wrist (not really recommended, but worth noting nonetheless).

Add in the cyclops date glass, and you've got yourself something serious enough to be fun at the same time.

Seiko Bell-Matic 4006-6031 "Knight"

Armor is meant to protect the soft, vulnerable insides of a knight. Adorned by protectors of yesteryears, the thick pieces of metal were chunky and a heft to move around, but they did their work, and somehow managed to make the wearer look awesome.

The Knight was so-named because of the generous amount of stainless steel devoted to its case. The thicker than usual case makes the watch dial smaller and stands the watch higher above the lucky user's wrist.

Add the polished hour markers and hands into the mix and you've got yourself a very stately timepiece. Strong and tough against the ravages of time, but gentlemanly and distinguished with its textured blue dial and bright red seconds hand.

That's a funny name to give a watch.

When I name my watches, I usually write down the first thing that come to mind when I come into contact with it. For this guy, it's how much it resembles an eyeball looking right at you. 

See?

And that is one good looking eye. Cased in a domed acrylic crystal, the textured blue dial contrasts nicely against the white chapter ring, The rest of the dial is alike the other 4006s I've seen - a clean look with straight hour batons all around, the day and date in a windowed frame.

The silver white and blue combination almost made me call this one Knight, but I've reserved that name for another Bell-Matic that's coming your way.

For being clean and crisp, I thought Eye would stick pretty well with this one. One thing you'd also like to note about this Bell-Matic is its unusually long second hand. Something for the collectors I guess.

Gold drives a man mad. It gives the delusion of power, and men hoard the gold and think themselves kings. They surround themselves with riches and watch time go past, each stack of the shimmering metal putting them further and further away from the edge.

This magnificent offering has one of the loveliest dials I've ever come across. So many layers of gold it's mesmerizing! 

From the outer alarm bezel to the minute track and , hour batons, outer guilloche ring, center of the dial, and down to the hands. This baby is shiny!

And all the riches, held safe in the dome of an acrylic crystal, classic one-link bracelet keeping it strapped to your wrist.

Almost too good to let go.

As a watch collector I wasn't completely convinced about the whole Pepsi dial thing. Even when a historic piece like the Pogue came my way I didn't bite.

And then there's the Rolex. Don't get me started.

This this guy came along in all its coolness. While it's not really a pepsi dial, where the red and blue were each given equal space on the bezel or chapter ring, the tasteful use of red and deep navy blue gave me enough reason to bring it home.

This Bell-Matic Pepsi is delivered in a very nice banded bracelet that gives it a very patrony appeal. Like a father who needs to be kept reminded at various times of the day, his time important to leave to chance. 

The dial itself is simple enough - polished black with simple steel batons placed around as hour markets. The hands are your standard Bell-Matics, but the nice sweeping red seconds hand really adds to the whole Pepsi thing. 

Held in placed by a nice pin cushion case and a domed acrylic crystal, this 1976 Seiko will sit handsomely on any man's wrist.

The first time I heard about mechanical alarm complications, I was very curious as to how they would sound like. As a kid I had a Casio which made the high pitched beeping whenever the hour turned, but I reckon a mechanical one wound sound very different from that one.

Vulcain and Jaeger LeCoultre alarm complications lead the pack with the Cricket and Memovox series. I own a 1950s Vulcain Cricket, and it sounds amazingly loud. This wild chattering reminding you that there's a lot more to life than sleeping.

The Bell-Matic is Japan giant Seiko's venture into mechanical alarm watches. Introduced in 1968, the automatic alarm watches came in two movements types - 4005 (without day) and the 4006 featured here. 

This lovely specimen comes delivered in a textured dial resembling fine woven fabric. From my handling of Bell-Matics, I've found that the Bell-Matics seem to come in really good condition. This one is no exception.

The hour batons are flawless, precision cut to reflect light and offer you reading of time in the dimmest lighting. The silver-blue combination carries on through the very sleek sword hands lined with slight LumiBrite, and the silver minute markers around the edge of the dial. 

Deviating from the cool tone are the red seconds hand and triangle alarm marker on the outer ring. It gives the Bell-Matic "Denim" just the edge needed to stand out.

Cased in an octagonal case and topped off with a domed acrylic crystal and paired with a proprietary Seiko bracelet. 

Nice blue dial, polished hands, striking red sweeping hand, octagon case - while separately it may seem to be rather common, it's the combination of the elements in a timeless execution that attracts me to this piece.
