1981 Vintage Seiko 5 7009-2041 "Citygoer"

Introducing
Seiko 5 7009-2041 "Citygoer"
Circa 1981

Blue and black diagonal stripes against a matte grey dial? Sign me up! This is one handsome wrist piece for the modern gentleman.

Calmly grey until you take a closer look, Citygoer is like the colorful socks I favor, hiding in the veil of subtlety until the observant eye catches it. Just the right person, with the right kind of complement for the excellent choice of ticker you have on your wrist.

The rest of the dial is simple, and plays the same act as the non-discrete dial. Once again gold and grey make a comeback, offering a very nice look from afar, tempting the wrist eye contact.

Complete the look is the three-link bracelet, marking Citygoer as a nice workplace companion in the modern city.

[SOLD] 1971 Vintage Seiko 5 6309-8230 "James"

Introducing
Seiko 5 6309-8230 "James"
Circa 1971

This guy looks like he'll pair pretty well with some guy's socks. While common on a knitted jacket, the pattern seems to also go well with wristwatch dials.

Who'd have guessed?

And check out the roman numeral printed at 12'O. The markets and hands aren't trying to take attention away from the dial, which is a good thing, because you're really buying James for the awesome black and grey pattern.

[SOLD] 1970s Vintage Seiko 5 7019 "Masquerade"

Introducing
Seiko 5 7019 "Masquerade"
Circa 1970s

A ball is a grand affair - graceful movements of bodies moving in synchrony across a decorated floor. This is the imagery presented to me when I looked at this watch.

A circular gold tent, enshrouding the private affair, with white and grey marbled floor greeting the dancers as they glide across.

The fluted bezel does well to make the watch look bigger on your wrist, and having it in the color gold adds to the novelty of it all.

The brushed checkered dial is a nice complement to the decorated bezel, and the gold markers and hands finish off the watch in all its splendor.

1982 Vintage Seiko 5 6319-500A "Disco"

Introducing
Seiko 5 6319-500A "Disco"
Circa 1982

This piece gives off a a very retro vibe, its design influenced by the shining brightness of the disco floors of the 1970s.

The scaled dial stands out first, its curvy waves forming the interesting backdrop for the golden rivets marking the hours.

Batons form a crosshair on the dial, centering the eye on the golden hands sweeping the retro dial.

Outside of the dance floor, a golden outer dial keeps things interesting, while the odd-shaped stepped bezel case completes the look.

1973 Vintage Seiko 5 6309-6620 "Checks"

Introducing
Seiko 5 6309-6620 "Checks"
Circa 1973

No prizes for guessing how this guy got his name.

Checks can go two ways - honest to goodness, or trendy and hip. I like to think that this watch belongs to the latter.

A nice textured grey dial sets a nice backdrop to the light blue checks that decorate the dial. Fashionable and trendy for the every day.

That it sits on a round dial underneath a cushion case is another awesomely fashionable design choice.

And the bracelet, oh the bracelet! Doesn't get any better than this gents.

[SOLD] 1974 Vintage Seiko 5 6309 "Patriarch"

Introducing
Seiko 5 6309 "Patriarch"
Circa 1974

Elders have a stoic aura about them - strong and silent, yet knowing everything. Like the giant grandfather clocks in our yesteryears, these sentinels of time stand watch over the current generation, nary a sound of complaint.

So-named because of its strong grey dial, the Patriarch exudes a sense of solemness about it. Its face blends in the back, while the strong gold lines mark the face, lines of age telling time.

Presented in traditional three-link bracelet, this timepiece is one of those that grow on you. Like a childhood story that beckons to be read - when all things around you have changed and lost its soul, you know there's always the past you can linger on to.

[SOLD] 1977 Vintage Seiko 5 7009-5862 "Valiant"

Introducing
Seiko 5 7009-5862 "Valiant"
Circa 1977

Remember the feeling you had when you sat in your first shiny car? That pride you felt as you embraced something that was new and untouched? How the sun gleamed off the sides and seem to make every angle even better?

Light plays with this timepiece, bouncing off each angle of the watch and makes you fall in love over and over again.

From the gentlemanly dark grey sun burst dial to the nicely polished gold hour indices, Valiant is a sight to behold.

Presented with a NOS aftermarket steel bracelet, the watch looks almost brand new. What's also worth noticing are how the left and right frame of the watch have been painted gold to differentiate it from the regular odd-cased Seiko 5s.

[SOLD] 1980 Vintage Seiko 5 6309-5080 "Dad"

Introducing
Seiko 5 6309-5080 "Dad"
Circa 1980

If my father was a Seiko 5, this would be him.

I would imagine in its hay day, Dad would be very stylish. Silver with a matte grey dial, chapter ring with stark white markers combed down leading to the silver hands making their way smoothly around the watch.

It's a handsome watch, and time has made it dignified. Everything remains as they should, except for signs of aging here and there. The bracelet loosened, the lume broke, the edge of the mineral glass worn and beaten.

But the dial remains, a reminder of what he used to be.

And in the collection he sits, patient and quiet. Like a father watching his child grow up.

[SOLD] 1983 Vintage Seiko 5 6309-584C "Dreadnaught"

Introducing
Seiko 5 6309-584C "Dreadnaught"
Circa 1983

Dreadnaught.

Oooo.. the name brings a shiver down my spine. It is a creation of destruction, forged by hateful men who wants a taste of world domination. Intimidating, metallic, and gruesome - the mechanism's gears crank and churn as it moves forward relentlessly.

But in its fearsome visage is an engineering marvel, each part moving in complementary unison. Sombre and stoic it may stand, the aesthetics of the monster is well worth admiring.

Let's start with the dial. The large rectangular dial presents itself in the color of clay. A lighter share surrounding the darker one inside, both presented in different finishing, hardly noticeable until you get closer.

Sunk deep like crosshairs on a mighty weapon, the three hour batons continues the weapon-of-war appeal. This and the weathered hands shake off any idea of vulnerability about the watch.

Leading off the hunky case is the tank track bracelet, rolling itself around your wrist. The links are solid and heavy, imposing more awe onto the watch.

Sitting large on a wrist, the Dreadnaught will be an eye-catching timepiece. Question is, are you man enough to carry it off?
